You’re out shopping for the most gorgeous engagement ring in creation, comparing styles, sparkles and prices. You’ve probably done your research and got some tips on how to choose the best ring. You’ve probably even considered alternatives to the traditional diamond engagement ring and factored in the symbolism behind engagement rings to guide you towards the right choice. Good for you!
Still, even if they are certain of their lady’s style, many grooms-to-be have one question praying on their mind: ‘’Of all the engagement rings near me, how am I to find the right size?’’ – and indeed, it’s a huge question.
Even though you can easily have the ring resized, nothing can compare to the moment when you gracefully slip the ring onto her finger after she’s said ‘’yes.’’ For a proposal to be perfect, the engagement ring has to be perfect.
We’ve already written about what shape and style are best for long or short fingers, and now we’re giving practical tips on how to figure out her engagement ring size – read on to find out!
Have her try out a sample ring
If you are keeping your intentions to propose under wraps, you need to be very subtle when inquiring about the size of the ring. One way to be discreet about it and still get the information you want is to tell your girlfriend that you want to buy a nice ring for your mom, sister, or anyone whose hands look a similar size to your girlfriend’s. Ask her what ring size would be best.
In case she is unsure about the ring size herself, you can even buy a random ring and ask your girlfriend to try it out. Just remember to actually give the ring as a present to your mom or sister (or whomever you previously said it was for), so your fiancée-to-be doesn’t suspect anything!
Borrow one of her rings
Although this is one of the best options when it comes to determining the exact engagement ring size, it can backfire on you if you are not careful. You have to make sure your girlfriend doesn’t notice that the ring is missing. This means that the ring you will take is not something she wears every day or is very attached to. If possible, pick a ring that you’ve seen her wear on the ring finger of her left hand. Take it to a jeweler and they will tell you the size you need.
Ask her mother, sister or girlfriends
Girls talk about all sorts of thing and believe me, engagement rings are one of those things! It’s possible that your girlfriend’s friends know not only what kind of ring she would like but also her engagement ring size.
Asking her mother is also a clever idea because she’s more experienced, knows her daughter best and has worn an engagement ring herself. Besides, she would be thrilled that you made her a part of this special event.
Send an undercover agent
If you have a female friend who is already engaged, let her know what your plans are and ask her to pay your girlfriend a visit. There she could casually suggest that your girlfriend tries on her engagement ring. This should give you an idea of what size to go for.
Don’t leave a single trace
While your girlfriend is out of the room, take one of her rings and place it on a piece of paper. Make sure you have a pencil with you so you can draw a circle on the outside and also on the inside of the ring. Be careful to put the ring back where you took it from so your girlfriend doesn’t catch you red handed.
Once you have the sketch, take it to your jeweler and they should be able to figure out the exact diameter and – the perfect size.
